3 Tips for Hiring a Drone for Your Wedding

Drone wedding photography and videography have become a real trend over the past few years. But this is not just a fad – aerial footage adds a really unique perspective! For us personally, it opened up a world of possibilities and definitely adds a little extra flare to our videos. As beautiful of an addition as drone clips are to a wedding video, especially here in Hawaii, here are a few tips to take into consideration before planning your big day:

Tips for Hiring a Drone for Your Wedding

Make sure whichever photographer or videographer you choose is a licensed drone pilot and has registered their drone with the FAA. If not, the footage captured may be removed from your wedding video. That would be a huge bummer! It might also be a good time to see if they also have drone insurance. Some venues are making this a requirement before giving permission for the photographer to take off. With all of this squared away from the start, you can move forward worry-free!

After making sure your photographer or videography is licensed, registered and insured, next you should check with your venue to make sure they allow drones. Sometimes if the venue is on or near a military base, in a city, or is a hotel, drones are prohibited for safety and privacy reasons. But don’t let that discourage you! If your venue is not drone friendly, ask your photographer or  videographer to capture the surrounding area instead of the venue itself.

With all the logistics out of the way, now it is time to have some fun! Think of some creative shots you might want to include and let your photographer or videographer know ahead of time. It could be a romantic aerial view of you and your new spouse, a goofy group picture with all of your guests, or footage of the beautiful landscape or sunset. Watch videos, spend some time on Pinterest and dream big! Let your personality shine!
