In the weeks leading up to their wedding at Hale Koa, Joe and Meilan both carried on hushed conversations with us, each one wanting to surprise the other with a performance on their big day. Joe had committed to learning how to hula, and had enlisted two award-winning dancers to help wow his bride. Days later Meilan called to inform us that she would be singing and performing a hula of her own for Joe. This speaks of the love that this couple has for one another. And when their wedding day arrived, each expressed their love through song and dance, leaving not a dry eye in the house (including my own).
Their traditional Hawaiian wedding ceremony was full of elements, such as drinking from the coconut and exchanging breaths, or “Ha.” Close friends and family extended their hands in prayer, before Joe and Meilan sealed their vows with a kiss. We were blessed to witness the marriage of Joe and Meilan, and wish them all the best along their journey together as husband and wife.
